It is the policy of the SMILES Mentoring Program that all mentors attend an initial 2 hour training session as part of the qualification process. The training is conducted by a staff person who has been certified by  Mass Mentoring. The training agenda covers basic program guidelines, safety issues including mandatory reporting, and communication/relationship building skills.

Trainings are held in New Bedford and Fall River periodically. Scheduled trainings will be posted and volunteers will be required to participate prior to the start of programs.
